Same day Crowns!?

We are pleased to offer this technology to our patients at Bonnyrigg Dental Surgery who wish to have dental crowns. Let’s take a look at what makes this technology so special and why we offer it in our practice.

What Is CEREC?

CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. But what it means for patients is a custom-made dental crown without a temporary that has to be removed or the runny molds from the past.

With CEREC, we can take a digital scan of your teeth, which generates a three-dimensional model in the CEREC software. Using this scan, we can create a custom crown that will fit your damaged tooth structure perfectly. The crown dimensions are generated and the crown is fabricated—all in the same visit.

Once the crown is ready, it is permanently bonded over your existing tooth.

Why CEREC?

CEREC crowns are incredibly convenient for our patient's busy lives. In the past, we would take a model of the tooth structure to be crowned, then send that to a lab for fabrication. Usually, it used to take 1-2 weeks for the crown to be made.

Meanwhile, we would fit the patient with a temporary crown. Because these temporaries were not permanent, it was possible they could become dislodged or broken—resulting in yet another visit to the dentist office.

Speed and convenience are important, but they are not the only reasons we have adopted CEREC technology in our office. CEREC crowns are also free of metal.

If you have an older dental crown, you are probably familiar with the tinge of metal that starts to show at the bottom of your crown, near the gumline. This does not happen with ceramic crowns made by CEREC technology.
